Boiler Repair in Cumberland, RI
Cumberland runs about 30% oil and 59% gas. Both feed boilers, both are serviced by people in the area, and the two machines have almost nothing in common once they stop working.
In brief
A town that splits its heating has both trades in it. Cumberland does, at 30% of households on oil and 59% on gas, so knowing which appliance is in the basement before telephoning saves the wrong one turning up.

How Cumberland heats
A town split between fuels usually has both trades working in it, which is worth knowing when you are choosing somebody. The question to ask is not whether they can work on a boiler but how many they see in a month — those are different answers.
| Households in Cumberland | Share |
|---|---|
| Fuel oil and kerosene | 30% |
| Gas — mains and bottled | 59% |
| Electricity | 9% |
| Wood, coal, solar or no fuel | 2% |
Across the 23 towns we cover in Rhode Island, 22% of households heat with oil. Cumberland sits 3 points below that.

Carbon monoxide
"Have the heating system professionally inspected and serviced annually to ensure proper operation" is CPSC’s wording, and it is a safety recommendation about combustion and venting rather than an efficiency suggestion.

Hot water or steam
Look for a sight glass. A short vertical tube of water on the side of the boiler means steam, and with it a low water cutoff that has to be checked. No sight glass, a pressure gauge and a small pump on a pipe means hot water.

What to ask whoever comes
Ask whether the relief valve has discharged. Water near the appliance is often that rather than a leak, and it means pressure reached somewhere it should not have — which is the actual fault to chase.
