Boiler Repair in Pennsburg, PA
Oil accounts for 25% of heating in Pennsburg, gas for 42%. On a split like this the first five minutes of any call is establishing which one you have, so it is worth knowing before you dial.
In brief
Fuel oil heats 25% of homes in Pennsburg, a substantial minority alongside gas at 42%. Which one a property burns decides the trade as much as the fault does, because an oil burner is a serviced appliance and a gas boiler is a different machine with different controls.

How Pennsburg heats
In a mixed town the first thing to settle is which fuel your own house uses, because an oil boiler and a gas boiler are different machines to own. Oil has consumable parts and a tank; gas has neither, and gets the annual check skipped for exactly that reason.
| Households in Pennsburg | Share |
|---|---|
| Fuel oil and kerosene | 25% |
| Gas — mains and bottled | 42% |
| Electricity | 29% |
| Wood, coal, solar or no fuel | 4% |
Across the 274 towns we cover in Pennsylvania, 19% of households heat with oil. Pennsburg sits about level with that.
Source: US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates, table B25040 (house heating fuel), 2023 release. Universe: 4,218 occupied housing units. The Census asks what the house is heated with, not what equipment does the heating. The oil share above therefore includes furnaces as well as boilers.
Carbon monoxide
CPSC puts it at more than 200 deaths a year in the United States from CO produced by non-automotive consumer products. Heating equipment is one source among several, and it is the one that runs unattended all winter.

Hot water or steam
Look for a sight glass. A short vertical tube of water on the side of the boiler means steam, and with it a low water cutoff that has to be checked. No sight glass, a pressure gauge and a small pump on a pipe means hot water.

What to ask whoever comes
Ask whether the appliance is hot water or steam, and what its AFUE is. DOE’s minimums run 82 to 86 percent depending on fuel and type, so those two facts decide what a like-for-like comparison even means.

Checking a plumber in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania has no state license for plumbers. Its Department of Labor and Industry states it has no jurisdiction and keeps no records of which municipalities require one, so the only reliable answer is your own city or township. Start here. Ask the contractor which municipality licenses them and confirm it with that office before work begins.
A boiler is not a furnace, and the person you want knows the difference.Tell us it is a boiler, tell us what the gauge reads if you can see it, and we will route you to somebody in your area who works on them. You are never charged. Past boilers, Pennsburg is covered for the rest of it.
