Boiler Repair in Malvern, PA
In Malvern, 20% of homes burn oil for heat. Enough that a contractor who works on boilers is findable, not so many that everyone assumes you have one.
In brief
A town that splits its heating has both trades in it. Malvern does, at 20% of households on oil and 52% on gas, so knowing which appliance is in the basement before telephoning saves the wrong one turning up.

How Malvern heats
A mixed town usually has both trades available, which is worth knowing when you are choosing somebody. Ask how much boiler work they do rather than whether they can — the two answers are different.
| Households in Malvern | Share |
|---|---|
| Fuel oil and kerosene | 20% |
| Gas — mains and bottled | 52% |
| Electricity | 27% |
| Wood, coal, solar or no fuel | 1% |
Across the 274 towns we cover in Pennsylvania, 19% of households heat with oil. Malvern sits about level with that.
Source: US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates, table B25040 (house heating fuel), 2023 release. Universe: 11,240 occupied housing units. B25040 is a fuel count. Hydronic and forced-air systems on oil are counted together, so read the share as "heats with oil" rather than "has a boiler".
Carbon monoxide
CPSC puts it at more than 200 deaths a year in the United States from CO produced by non-automotive consumer products. Heating equipment is one source among several, and it is the one that runs unattended all winter.

Hot water or steam
Two systems share the name boiler and very little else. Steam distributes vapor and returns condensate by gravity; hot water pushes water round a loop with a pump and holds it under pressure. Radiators can look identical from the room.
The boiler tells you which: a sight glass means steam, a pressure gauge and an expansion tank mean hot water.

What to ask whoever comes
Ask whether the relief valve has discharged. Water near the appliance is often that rather than a leak, and it means pressure reached somewhere it should not have — which is the actual fault to chase.

Checking a plumber in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania has no state license for plumbers. Its Department of Labor and Industry states it has no jurisdiction and keeps no records of which municipalities require one, so the only reliable answer is your own city or township. Start here. Ask the contractor which municipality licenses them and confirm it with that office before work begins.
A boiler is not a furnace, and the person you want knows the difference.Tell us it is a boiler, tell us what the gauge reads if you can see it, and we will route you to somebody in your area who works on them. You are never charged. Boilers apart, Malvern can use this number for anything.
