Boiler Repair in Lawndale, NC
In Lawndale, 10% of homes burn oil. A real minority — enough that the equipment is here, few enough that finding somebody who services it regularly is worth doing before you need one.
In brief
In Lawndale, 10% of households burn oil for heat. Where oil is that much of a minority the firms that service a burner are fewer, so establishing the fuel matters more than describing the symptom.

How Lawndale heats
Being the only burner on the street has one advantage worth taking: the same contractor will remember your system. Where oil is common a visit is routine and anonymous; where it is rare it tends to be the same person each year, and continuity is worth more than it sounds on a machine that is serviced once a year.
| Households in Lawndale | Share |
|---|---|
| Fuel oil and kerosene | 10% |
| Gas — mains and bottled | 5% |
| Electricity | 79% |
| Wood, coal, solar or no fuel | 5% |
Across the 49 towns we cover in North Carolina, 7% of households heat with oil. Lawndale sits 18 points above that.
Source: US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates, table B25040 (house heating fuel), 2023 release. Universe: 2,741 occupied housing units. The Census asks what the house is heated with, not what equipment does the heating. The oil share above therefore includes furnaces as well as boilers.
Carbon monoxide
CPSC recommends CO alarms on every level of the home and outside sleeping areas, and specifically not in kitchens or above fuel-burning appliances. The instinct is to put one next to the boiler, and that is the one place the guidance says not to.

Hot water or steam
Knowing whether the system is hot water or steam saves a visit. A steam boiler has a sight glass and a low water cutoff; a hot water boiler has a circulator, an expansion tank and a pressure gauge worth reading. Almost nothing that is true of one is true of the other.
DOE regulates them separately too, at slightly different AFUE minimums by fuel and type.

What to ask whoever comes
Ask whether the fault was diagnosed or inferred. "It is probably the circulator" and "the circulator is drawing no current" are different sentences, and only one of them justifies a part.

Checking a plumber in North Carolina
North Carolina licenses are issued by the North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors, which publishes a public search you can use before work begins.
A boiler is not a furnace, and the person you want knows the difference.Tell us it is a boiler, tell us what the gauge reads if you can see it, and we will route you to somebody in your area who works on them. You are never charged. Past boilers, Lawndale is covered for the rest of it.
