Boiler Repair in Union Bridge, MD
35% of households in Union Bridge heat with fuel oil. In a town like this the annual burner service is a normal part of the year, and the trade to do it is nearby.
In brief
A boiler is an ordinary appliance in Union Bridge rather than an unusual one: 35% of households heat with fuel oil. An oil-fired system is serviced annually rather than repaired when it stops, and the burner, the tank and the controls all belong to that appointment.

How Union Bridge heats
In a town where oil is the norm, the useful question at the annual visit is not whether it passed but what the combustion numbers were, and whether they moved since last year. One reading is a snapshot; two are a trend, and a trend is what tells you a part is on its way out before it takes the heat with it.
| Households in Union Bridge | Share |
|---|---|
| Fuel oil and kerosene | 35% |
| Gas — mains and bottled | 8% |
| Electricity | 40% |
| Wood, coal, solar or no fuel | 17% |
Across the 109 towns we cover in Maryland, 13% of households heat with oil. Union Bridge sits 3 points below that.

Carbon monoxide
"Have the heating system professionally inspected and serviced annually to ensure proper operation" is CPSC’s wording, and it is a safety recommendation about combustion and venting rather than an efficiency suggestion.

Hot water or steam
If there is a gauge reading in pounds per square inch and a tank somewhere above or beside the boiler, it is a hot water system. If there is a glass tube on the side of the boiler with a water line visible in it, it is steam. The two fail differently and are serviced differently.
Steam is the older arrangement and survives mostly in older housing, which is where a good share of the oil heat in this state is.

What to ask whoever comes
Ask whether the appliance is hot water or steam, and what its AFUE is. DOE’s minimums run 82 to 86 percent depending on fuel and type, so those two facts decide what a like-for-like comparison even means.
